Probably the most misunderstood piece of equipment any diver carries. How many
times have your heard “How big is your knife”? or “Do you carry a knife to fight
off sharks”? How you answer the first one is strictly your business, but the
second one shows how misunderstood the “dive knife” really is. Every diver knows
that his/her knife is one of the most valuable tools they can carry, and that it
is NOT a weapon at all. Unless otherwise prohibited, a diver should have at
least two cutting tools with them at all times, placed in different areas so
that if they cannot reach one, they can get to the other. Generally one is a
traditional “knife” tool, with either a blunt or sharp point while the other is
a pair of “Paramedic Shears” for cutting. As for the sharks, well, Bruce (of
JAWS fame) has a standing account with us for his custom made dentures.
Apparently he did one too many takes of him chewing on a scuba cylinder and it
really messed with his bite. Till he hooked up with us, all he was surviving on
were peanut butter and jelly fish sandwiches. However, we did require him to
sign a “Divers are Friends, NOT Food” statement – just in case! :<) |
